STEW MAKERSPACE
The Stew Makerspace is a community resource that allows people in the Grinnell area to learn, share, and create!
The Stew Makerspace is a collaboration between the Grinnell Area Arts Council and the Wilson Center for Innovation and Leadership at Grinnell College. Located at 927 Broad Street, the Stew houses spaces for ceramics, woodworking, 3D printing, metal working, laser engraving, and much more.
The Stew is welcome to all and staffed by Grinnell College student monitors and community members, who can provide information, safety training, and instruction. A pass to the Stew includes:
safety training (required before equipment usage)
access to the equipment during open hours; instruction on equipment (varies due to monitor expertise and availability)
discounts on classes and workshops
Pass rates:
Non-students: $40/mo. basic access; $60/mo. unlimited access (unlimited access is contingent on approval from Stew staff - start with a basic pass first)
Current Grinnell College students: FREE basic access courtesy of the Wilson Center
Grinnell High School students: FREE basic access courtesy of Arts Council donors
Children under the age of 14 may use the Stew while accompanied by by a parent/guardian who is paying for a basic or unlimited pass; the Stew is not a safe environment for children under 8.
The Arts Council’s renovation of the Stew was supported by a grant to Grinnell College from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation in addition to the Wilson Center and generous local donors to the Arts Council.
