CERAMICS

GAAC’s ceramics program is part of the Stew Makerspace (927 Broad Street). We frequently offer beginner’s classes, and patrons with a Stew Pass can take advantage of our mentored hours.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • How do I get access to the ceramics studio?

    • Buying a Stew Pass grants access to the entire makerspace, however the ceramics studio requires training before we let you work unsupervised. If you already have ceramics experience you can contact us to arrange a time to have your skill level evaluated. If you are just getting started you can enroll in a beginners class, or drop by during scheduled mentored hours.

  • Can I bring my own clay or glaze?

    • We do not allow outside clay or glaze in our studio. Once you have been approved to work independently in the studio, clay is available for purchase and glazing and firing are included in that charge. We have a large selection of glazes available.

  • Can I purchase clay and work at home, or pay to have my pieces fired in your kilns without also purchasing a Stew Pass and being approved to use your studio?

    • Generally no, our services are for patrons supporting us through the purchase of a Pass. Once we have a relationship with you and are familiar with your work we may allow exceptions.

  • How often are pieces fired?

    • We fire up a kiln when there are enough pieces ready to fill it. There is no official firing schedule, however our studio produces a large enough volume of work that kiln firings are frequent.
