CODE OF CONDUCT


The Grinnell Area Arts Council (GAAC) is a community-based organization dedicated to enriching Grinnell by supporting creative expression. All staff, volunteers, and participants are expected to foster an inclusive, positive, and respectful environment for everyone. Adherence to the organization's rules and procedures is required, and violations of the Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action, up to and including removal from the program.

GAAC staff, volunteers, and participants in GAAC’s classes and programs shall not:

  1. Discriminate based on gender identity, ethnicity, religion, nationality, age, economic status, sexuality, or other category.

  2. Use abusive language or act in a disrespectful manner towards a fellow participant, staff member or volunteer, including hate speech, racial slurs, insults, offensive “jokes”, or other communication based on divisiveness.

  3. Engage in verbal, physical or visual harassment of another participant, staff member or volunteer, including unwanted physical contact.

  4. Engage in actual or threatened violence toward any individual or group, or conduct endangering the life, safety, health or well-being of others.

  5. Participate in programs while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

  6. Bring onto GAAC’s property dangerous or illegal materials such as explosives, firearms, weapons or other similar items, or use GAAC resources to construct said items.

  7. Fail to follow program policy or procedure, or disregard the instructions of program leaders, be they staff or volunteers.

  8. Misuse, remove or damage the equipment, property or facilities of GAAC.


By promoting a culture of respect, inclusivity, and collaboration, we can ensure that everyone can enjoy a positive and enriching experience at GAAC.
